NOTOGONEOUS

INFORMATION AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST

This unique genus of fish has been found only in the Tertiary deposits of Fossil Syncline Lake and in a similar lake deposit in France. Portions of this genus have been discovered in channel facies and the Bridger Formation. The Notogoneus has small ventrally situated mouth parts, an adaptation for bottom feeding. We speculate that the fish kept the bottom regions near the shore free of decaying organisms but fed as well on small living organisms and plant lite. This genus is by far one of the rarest fishes within the ancient lake.
