Large Amia – “Fish Within A Fish”
This Amia features a fossilized Mioplosus in its stomach - an extremely rare occurrence. Quarried in Syncline Lake, this specimen measures approximately 112 centimeters in length, making it one of the largest fossilized Amia ever unearthed. To this day, there are only a few Amia specimens in galleries worldwide. Originally a part of our private collection, the family of the late Carl Ulrich (1915 – 2018) has decided to put this beautiful specimen on the market. A pioneer of fossil preparation, Mr. Ulrich’s pieces are renowned for their exceptional detail and artistic presentation. They can be found in museums and galleries worldwide, including the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. This is one of the last unsold pieces prepared by Mr. Ulrich and his apprentices, and we feel that it deserves to be admired by the world.
